Chapter Philanthropy

Overview

The ladies of Zeta Sigma hold signature philanthropy events each semester to raise money in support of The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation and Reading is Fundamental (RIF), as well as the Jed Foundation for Suicide Prevention. These events have helped to not only to raise money to our philanthropies, but develop a stronger sisterhood through support and teamwork.

Kappa Kolor Run

Zeta Sigma hosted Kappa Kolor Run. This event is held on the UNT campus with girls at specific areas on campus throwing color on runners. Kappa Kolor Run has been a success with a large amount of donations made through CrowdChange and an excellent turnout of family members, students, and members of other organizations. Kappa Kolor Run helps to raise money for the Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation and Reading is Fundamental. Kappa Kolor Run was also awarded “Event of the Year” in 2019.

Reading is Key Events

Zeta Sigma also hosts “Reading Is Key” events. These events partner with a local elementary school to read to students and distribute books to each student. During the fall semester in 2019, a “Reading is Key” event was held for all second graders in the library at Ginnings Elementary. Our members read to the classes and each student left with a children’s book of their own to take with them. We encourage the students to understand the importance of reading at an early age and hope to strike a passion and love for literacy. Our chapter also received the “Adopt a School” award for Ginnings Elementary.

Ginnings Elementary

During the school year, the members of Zeta Sigma volunteer on a weekly basis at Ginnings Elementary. This helps to involve the members of our chapter in the Denton community and provide a hands-on learning experience with children. The members of our chapter volunteer to read to students, assist in events held at the school, and volunteer at an after-school program called GEMS. GEMS encourages a select group of fifth-grade girls to build friendships and sisterhood with their peers. They learn various qualities involving manners, motivation, love, and many others.
